#BeActiveAtHome – the Winter Edition is here!

While the colder season often means moving physical activities inside, this year is different. The coronavirus pandemic has forced many of our favourite winter hangouts, like gyms, swimming pools and sport halls, to close. Outdoor activities, like running and cycling and traditional winter sports, such as skiing and skating, depend on the right weather conditions.

The second edition of #BeActiveAtHome aims to inspire us all to continue exercising and being active in these difficult times. There are many ways to stay fit indoors - the first edition of #BeActiveAtHome offered lots of advice on how to use the space and tools at hand. Everyday objects and furniture can turn your living room into a gym: a bit of creativity and motivation will take you a long way!

Why care to stay active in confinement? Doing sport provides great benefits for our physical and mental health. You can support each other within your household, while friends and family spur one another on from a distance.

#BeActiveAtHome Winter Edition offers messages of support and hope. We want to inspire ideas and solidarity during this difficult time.

Mariya Gabriel, European Commissioner for Innovation, Research, Education, Culture, Youth and Sport said

Physical activity is great for our well-being, giving both body and mind a boost. Do you have a favourite way to stay on the move at home? Join our relaunched #BeActiveAtHome challenge and inspire others!

So, let’s keep going! Sport and physical activity are invaluable for our health and wellbeing. We should carry on during the winter months and encourage our friends and family to do the same. More tips and tricks and suggested online workout programmes will follow!
