The finalists in the Physical Activity category

The 3 finalists in the ‘Physical Activity’ category of the #BeActive EU Sport Awards have made a positive difference to health and mental well-being in their communities by promoting movement and social interaction.

Sihtasutus Liikumisharrastuse Kompetentsikeskus, Estonia

The Ball Boxes (Pallikastid) initiative makes free balls available to spark spontaneous outdoor play across Estonia.

It encourages people to get moving and creates opportunities for fun and connection.

We placed a box of balls on a public sports ground and trusted communities to do the rest, and they did. Sometimes the simplest ideas create the biggest change.

The Fit Senior programme uses physical activity to combat isolation among older adults.

By coming together to take part in various activities, they discover the benefits for their health, reinforce their physical autonomy and forge new friendships.

The Skate School initiative uses skateboarding to get marginalised youth moving and empowered.

It promotes inclusion, bringing together migrants, vulnerable youth, and especially women and girls in a sport traditionally dominated by men and boys.

#BeActive EU Sport Awards Ceremony

The European Commission will announce winners and hand out the awards on 23 June 2026 in Brussels, Belgium.
