EU Sport Forum 2025: shaping the future of sport together

This years’ EU Sport Forum took place in Krakow on 10 and 11 April, gathering nearly 350 participants. 

The 2025 EU Sport Forum was held in Krakow, Poland. It came to a successful close on 11 April, leaving participants inspired and equipped to advance the role of sport across Europe and beyond.

Over two days, participants from diverse sectors including European institutions, sport federations, Olympic committees and grassroots organisations, gathered to explore several different topics and engage in dynamic discussions.

High-level engagement and inspirational dialogue

Commissioner Micallef hosted the EU Sport Forum and shared invaluable insights into the EU’s strategic vision for sport.  

He also announced an upcoming Communication on promoting and strengthening the European Sport Model in the second half of 2026.

High-level speakers

Among the several high-level speakers who took the floor at this edition were

  • IOC President Thomas Bach, who provided a comprehensive intervention about the universality of sport
  • David Evangelista and athlete Shanaia Xuereb from Special Olympics, on how sport can change lives
  • Olympian Robert Korzeniowski, who shared his journey from top athlete in Communist times to successful entrepreneur
  • Olympian Sandra Forgues, who moved the audience with her journey from competitive sport to trans advocate, arguing both for the inclusion of trans athletes and the protection of women in sport.

Interactive sessions and key insights

High-level discussions focused on

  • strengthening our European Sport Model based on solidarity, values and competitiveness
  • building bridges: the role of sport in EU enlargement

The Forum also featured engaging sessions focusing on pressing issues such as

  • the role of sport in education
  • rights and wellbeing of athletes  
  • piracy of live sport events  
  • sport actions under the future Erasmus+ programme  
  • foreign investments in European Football  
  • Artificial Intelligence in sport  

Sport activities

The vibrant Sport Village offered participants a chance to engage in many sport activities.  

The table-tennis tournament was particularly popular among the participants, and the Commissioner took also part in an impromptu run around the beautiful city of Krakow, encouraged by Robert Korzeniowski, World and Olympic Champion in race walking.
