Commission strengthens internal cooperation on the promotion of healthy lifestyles

The Tartu call for a healthy lifestyle sets out a roadmap for promoting healthy lifestyles in Europe.

The European Commission's Directorate General for Education, Youth, Sport and Culture has established a new inter-service group on the promotion of healthy lifestyles. The objective is to strengthen co-operation among relevant services of the European Commission, to coordinate actions to promote healthy lifestyles and related funding. The group met for the first time on 18 January 2019. This initiative contributes to the response to the Tartu call for a healthy lifestyle.

The Tartu call for a healthy lifestyle sets out a roadmap for promoting healthy lifestyles in Europe, in particular amongst children. The aim of the call is to encourage a more consistent and effective approach across Europe towards the promotion of healthy lifestyles, making use of EU initiatives and funding where available.

The call was signed on 22 September 2017 in the Estonian city of Tartu by Commissioners Tibor Navracsics (education, culture, youth and sport), Vytenis Andrikiukaitis (health and food safety) and Phil Hogan (agriculture and rural development),
As foreseen in the Tartu call, the European Commission will organise a final seminar, on the promotion of healthy lifestyles in June Brussels, to take stock of progress made in the implementation of commitments from the Tartu Call.
