Meeting hears of challenges and opportunities for TSG under new Erasmus+

Traditional sports and games

Commissioner Gabriel sees promoting Traditional Sports and Games as one of her top priorities.

A total of ninety participants attended the virtual meeting on 'The new Erasmus+ programme (2021-2027), challenges and opportunities for the traditional sports and games (TSG)', which took place on 16 April 2021.

The morning meeting included representatives from the European Commission, organisations representing projects financed under Erasmus+, traditional sports and games associations, sports organisations, and representatives from different Member States.

Mr Guglielmo Di Cola, Member of the Cabinet of Ms Mariya Gabriel, European Commissioner for Innovation, Research, Culture, Education and Youth, addressed the meeting with an overview of the political framework of the Erasmus+ programme.

He outlined the centrality that TSG has in this regard and the importance the Commissioner places on promoting TSG as one of her top priorities, given the relationship between sport and cultural heritage.

New Erasmus+ programme presentation

Mr Yves Le Lostecque, Head of Erasmus Mundus & Sport Unit – EACEA, gave a presentation of the new Erasmus+ Programme (2021-2027). 

Mr. Le Lostecque outlined the general policy priorities and the specific sport priorities of the programme, explaining how these relate to TSG. He provided information about the programme’s budget and implementation roadmap, as well as the novelties and new funding rules of the programme. 

More opportunities for TSG

Further to the agenda, two presentations on Good Practices of Traditional Sports and Games projects were delivered by the guests of the panel.

Overall, the participants welcomed the positive evolution of the Erasmus+ programme for the 2021-2027 period and expressed great satisfaction for the increased opportunities provided for TSG.
