Sport and innovation summit – linking innovators

On 30 May, the European Commission organised the first-ever Sport and innovation summit.

The event took place in the Berlaymont, Brussels, Belgium. It was attended by innovators, researchers, policymakers and other sports stakeholders pushing forward the boundaries of innovation.

EU funds for innovation in sport

The morning session was devoted to speed-dating with EU Programme Managers from Erasmus+, the Life Programme, the European Innovation Council, the European Institute of Innovation & Technology and Enterprises Europe Network who replied to questions from participants about EU funding.

A forward-looking policy discussion

The afternoon session started with welcome speeches from Margaritis Schinas, Vice President of the European Commission and Tomasz Frankowski, Member of the European Parliament, on the importance and impact of innovation in sport.

The three panels that followed discussed new frontiers in innovation for athletes, sustainability in sport and digitalisation.

100th pledge of the HealthyLifestyle4All campaign

During the Summit, Ms Natalie Robyn, CEO of the Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA), signed the 100th pledge of the HealthyLifestyle4All campaign.

With this pledge, the FIA commits to promote better access to motor sports among girls and young women.
