Access to sport and physical activity for all LGBTIQ+ people across Europe

The European Gay and Lesbian Sport Federation (EGLSF) will work on improving inclusion of LGBTIQ+ communities in physical activity and sport by providing targeted and accelerated opportunities for the most marginalised and least likely to participate individuals, particularly lesbian, non-binary, trans and intersex.

Description of the Pledge

This pledge will tackle the barriers that continue to prevent LGBTIQ+ communities from accessing and participating in physical activity and sport.

A specific focus within this pledge is to provide targeted and accelerated opportunities for the most marginalised and least likely to participate individuals specifically lesbian*, non-binary, trans and intersex people.

EGLSF stands for inclusion, diversity and equal access to sport for all.

Specific activities that we will undertake to fulfil our pledge

  • build the network and develop the capacity of LGBTIQ+ individuals  and grassroots sports clubs across Europe
  • develop partnerships and collaborations with mainstream physical activity and sports organisations to improve inclusion and integration of LGBTIQ+ communities
  • awareness campaign on the benefits of taking part in inclusive sport events
  • awareness campaign offering visibility to LBTIQ+ women* in sport
  • advocate for and promote inclusive sport through sporting events that enable everyone to participate
  • challenge and advocate for the rights of LGBTIQ+ athletes and participants to be included and protected in our sporting venues and by our governing bodies and institutions
  • highlight barriers that the LGBTIQ+ sporting community face and promote good practices and ways in which these barriers can be overcome

Expected measurable outcomes

  • A stronger European network of LGBTIQ+ communities , groups and clubs
  • Higher numbers of participants in inclusive sports events
  • Greater representation of more marginalised groups able to access and participate in physical activity and sport
  • More stakeholders across Europe doing more to improve access and participation of LGBTIQ+ individuals in sport
