Description of pledge activities

The action plan is built on the priorities of Germany’s Presidency of the Council of the European Union in 2020, namely on enhancing cross-sectoral cooperation in the area of sport.

To this end, it will unite to work across silos

  • all relevant Federal Ministries
  • the Länder (state level)
  • the local level
  • the organised sport sector
  • the academic sector
  • civil society

The action plan 'Physical Activity and Sports for all' aims at developing and implementing joint projects in 5 thematic areas

1. increasing the (digital) visibility and accessibility of sports, including the introduction of a nationwide 'Sports Day'

2. enhancing the possibilities of voluntary engagement in the area of sports, improving trainers' conditions

3. strengthening the power of sport on social cohesion and participation

4. improving collaboration between kindergarten/schools and sport organisations

5. promoting innovative and sustainable concepts for sports infrastructure

On 13 December 2022, a national summit to promote physical activity and sports ('Bewegungsgipfel') will bring together all relevant stakeholders to launch the action plan. Its content and thematic areas will be summarised in a joint summit declaration, which will be communicated to the broad public and the press.

There will be a follow-up summit on 2023, to acknowledge the proposals of the working groups at a political level and to kick off the implementation process.

Expected measurable outcome

  • Launch of the national 'Sports Day'
  • Number of collaborations between kindergarten/schools and sport organisations
