Handball playing fields for all
Lille Metropole will, in partnership with the French Handball Federation, work towards deploying outdoor handball playing fields in vacant public spaces. The aim is to provide access to sports to everyone, in particular to youth and disadvantage groups, and build team spirit and togetherness around sports.

Description of the Pledge
The design concept used will involve citizens and different local stakeholders for local initiatives and grassroots events, in full respect with the European Green Deal objectives. As a second step, the project could extend to other sports (such as basketball, football, urban sports) and healthy activities thanks to partnerships with other national federations.
Expected measurable outcomes
Lille Metropole expects various positive outcomes from this initiative.
The most important outcome would be to turn unused public spaces (urban and rural) into revitalised zones that would be accessible to everyone. By doing this, everybody would benefit from the deployment of such sports playing fields (youth, adults, etc.) and promote local handball clubs and healthy activities.
It would thus contribute to increase the number of sports infrastructures and democratize sport practices on the metropolitan territory.
Once the Olympic games are done, the handball fields would remain, which would allow the current and next generations to enjoy it as a heritage of 2024 Olympics and Paralympics.
