Description of pledge activities

Our school will organise the following major events to promote active and healthy behaviour.

1 - "Active & Healthy" campaign before Christmas

Bike route for students and teachers the week before the Christmas holidays. This event is going to promote the use of bycicles and healthy habits, as well as social relationships betwen students.

2 - Zumba and body weight class at school

These events will take place in November for students and teachers to be more active.

3 - Hiking route

During the last school week, students and some teachers are going to hike a typical Basque hiking route. This event will improve their relationship with nature and also the physical condition of students and teachers.

4 - Aquatic sports (SUP and Kayak)

During the last school week, students and some teachers are going to do some aquatic sports in Zumaia (Basque Coast). This event will improve their relationship with nature and also the physical condition of students and teachers.

5 - Actions to improve healthy mobility

Enable a common area in the school with tools to fix bicycles. This proposal aims to increase mobility by bicycle and physical exercise in our students, teachers and families.

6 - Basque rural sports day

In December we will celebrate the day of Basque rural sports at school, where all students and teachers are invited to participate in different competitions. This event will improve the physical condition and also the knowledge of these old sports.

7 - Moving Schools Challenge

Our school will be participating to this project that will give students the opportunity to collect "Healthy Kilometres" through educational activities around healthy nutrition, environmental awareness projects, and family healthy leisure activities (music, reading, theater…)

Moreover, the school will train teachers on a model of "holistic healthy lifestyles school" and about how to teach physical activity, healthy nutrition, sanitary prevention, and healthy leisure.

We will be organising at least 2 healthy nutrition projects for all kids (adapted to ages), 2 sanitary prevention sessions (CPR, teeth care) and will foster our healthy leisure activities (music and family festival). This way we will enhance all healthy lifestyles dimensions on our educative portfolio, with the aim to achieve the impact declared.

Expected measurable outcome

  • 70% of students to be more active and 50% to adopt healthy habits (nutrition, sanitary prevention, healthy leisure)
  • 10% increase of activity levels of staff and families

The impact will be assessed using IPAQ (International Physical Activity Questionnaire, "type C” - short version) to get the data. For other healthy habits, our own questionnaire will be used based on the HBSC (Health Behavior School aged children) from the World Health Organization.
