Move More!
Paris 2024 will promote more active lifestyles nationwide and will support the power of sport in changing lives through better health, education and social inclusion.

Description of the Pledge
Paris 2024 will harness the opportunity of hosting the Olympic and Paralympic Games to promote more active lifestyles nationwide and to support the power of sport in changing lives through better health, education and social inclusion.
Paris 2024 Organizing Committee for the Olympic and Paralympic Games believes that sport not only creates emotions that bring people together but also has the power to change lives through better health, education, and social inclusion. Hosting the Games, the biggest sport event in the world, offers a once-in-a-century opportunity to bring more sport into the lives of the host country’s population. With the support of the IOC and the IPC, Paris 2024 seeks to drive lasting change in France by powering a “Move More” strategy. Since 2017 and the designation of Paris to host the Games, many impactful programs have been designed by and with scientists, teachers, public stakeholders, parents and local authorities.
With its Move More! strategy, Paris 2024’s pledges
- to inspire people to move more – by using engaging, compelling, and evidence-based messages, and by convincing key stakeholders to raise people’s awareness about the importance of being physically active on a daily basis, in line with WHO recommendations
- to create opportunities for people to get moving, whatever their age, gender or occupation, bringing sport and physical activity where they are, at school, at work, and in their city
Below are 3 examples of how Paris 2024 takes action to deliver positive change.
- 30 minutes Daily Physical Activity program at school. Paris 2024 is committed to drive radical change throughout the country by developing the place of sport and physical activity in young children’s lives. Following the success of the pilot phase, a program sponsored by Paris 2024 is currently being generalized; by 2024, each child will enjoy at least 30 minutes of daily physical activity in each of the 35 000+ elementary schools in France. Inspired by the Finnish “Schools on the move” program, the organizing committee has played a key role in securing the commitment of public stakeholders by acting as an essential partner of the initiative.
- Active design: promoting more active lifestyles in Terre de Jeux 2024 cities. Local authorities – mostly cities – are the first supporters and funders of sport in France. Paris 2024 pledges to support and leverage local innovation to create more active lifestyles for everyone. Paris 2024 has created the Terre de Jeux 2024 label, now its flagship engagement program, to encourage local authorities to take action to develop and promote inclusive participation in sport, at local and regional levels. The label rewards the commitment of cities and regions that actively promote sport among their citizens. In 2022, more than half of the French population lives in a Terre de Jeux 2024 city. This extended network of mayors and local experts represents very powerful tool to share messages, best practices, challenges, etc. The organizing committee is convinced that urban planning and design are key in promoting a more active lifestyle. Paris 2024 thus strongly embraces and promotes the concept of active design, which was still relatively unknown in France a few years ago. The organizing committee has adopted a multi-level approach to
- create non-existent tools in French, explaining the key concept of active design and offering practical solutions to implement it in a city (a guide, an presentation video)
- implement a compelling proof of concept in 6 mid-sized Terre de Jeux cities (50k to 100k residents), co-led and financed by the governmental agency in charge of urban planning
- Paris 2024’s mass participation marathon. Paris 2024 pledges to organize a mass participation marathon offering amateur runners the opportunity to follow the steps of world-class athletes, on the course of the official Olympic Marathon. With this event, Paris 2024 invites people across France to be inspired by the athlete mindset and the Olympic and Paralympic values and to embrace them in their daily lives.
Expected measurable outcome
- % of French primary schools engaged in the "30 minutes of Daily Physical Activity Programme" sponsored by Paris 2024
- Number of people directly benefiting from a project using sport for social impact supported by Paris 2024 nationwide
- % of the French population aware of the WHO recommendation regarding Daily Physical Activity
