Community of practice on health

This community aims to highlight the link between sport and health and promote practices that can have a positive impact on the life of Europeans.

It is open to Erasmus+ beneficiaries and to practitioners linking sport and health.

Capacity building activities

  • Promoting mental well-being in and through sport. This session featured a presentation on the EU’s Comprehensive Approach to Mental Health Strategy as well as various projects helping students with low physical activity and mental health challenges, addressing stigma in sport, tailoring sport for individuals in the spectrum of autism and dealing with sport with people with mental health disorders.
  • Local and urban planning to promote sport. This event focused on the intersection of urban planning and public health. Eurocities presented the European Mobility Week, highlighting how inclusive mobility and urban design can promote active lifestyles. The Health City Institute discussed health equity, social determinants of health, and initiatives such as the Rome Health City Lab and the Urban Health guideline.
  • Health, sports and education, and the prevention of non-communicable diseases in the EU. This session addressed the Polish Presidency’s priorities for integrating sport, education, and health within the EU Semester, with a strong focus on preventing non-communicable diseases.

Ideas papers

The community has released two ideas papers on

  • promoting healthy lifestyles through tailored physical activity and inclusive urban planning to enhance well-being and prevent non-communicable diseases
  • supporting mental health in young people through sport and education, with emphasis on mental health literacy, safe and inclusive spaces, and cross-sector collaboration.

Both papers advocate for inclusive, community-based approaches and highlight the importance of tailored interventions and policy integration.

Community of practice on green and sustainable sport

This community is open to

  • all former members (including observers) of the Green Sport Expert Group
  • any organisation involved in sport (including the public, non-profit or business sector) interested in playing an active role in making sport more environmentally sustainable

It is the follow-up to the Green Sport Expert Group, which drafted a report with recommendations on “Sport’s contribution to the European Green Deal”.

Putting these recommendations into practice requires capacity building measures, technical guidance and peer support. This community of practice offers all of these.

The green sport manifesto (September 2025) is a call for action to sport organisations in Europe and an invitation to join Europe’s sport sustainability movement.

Capacity building activities

Capacity building webinars have already covered topics such as the delivery of sustainable sport events and the green sport manifesto.

Community of practice on EU funding (closed)

This community continued the work of the SHARE initiative (2018-2023), offering its participants information and best practices on the use of EU funds for sport.

It provided members with workshops and networking opportunities allowing them to learn about EU funding options for sport.

Capacity building activities

The community has analysed

  • the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF), discussing projects showing how diverse local infrastructure can benefit from the strategic use of ERDF funds
  • the LIFE Programme, focusing on the objectives, scope and application process of the programme, and presenting inspiring case studies of projects bringing together sports with sustainability

Since the current EU Multiannual Financial Framework will finish in 2027, this community has been closed. Discussions on EU funding are now taking place in the other communities of practice.
